Fantastic film.

And, yes, Andy definitely has a point about our Hunchback friend (the book was written by Victor Hugo...). The climactic scene, with Hugo carrying the automaton (which looks strikingly like a character from Metropolis), is directly out of the silent film version of Hunchback, with Quasimodo (Lon Chaney) carrying the lifeless body of Esmerelda.Ken Goldsteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14352088132228110064noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119893162712599171.post-15344521586235875812011-11-30T18:42:43.518-08:002011-11-30T18:42:43.518-08:00Ken - that's why I saw the 10:45 PM screening....Ken - that's why I saw the 10:45 PM screening...

Andy - Fascinating - It hasn't occurred to me - I'll have to investigate...Rickflixhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00851091100831706043noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119893162712599171.post-4459114560487930932011-11-30T17:34:24.716-08:002011-11-30T17:34:24.716-08:00I wasn't aware of the Méliès element to the Hu...I wasn't aware of the Méliès element to the Hugo story. I've been wanting to see it, but this time of year (and for a picture that focuses on a kid) the theaters are full of children. If I can find a quiet theater, I'm interested, and more so now that I've read this.Ken Goldsteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14352088132228110064noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119893162712599171.post-26066578548473977942011-11-30T14:38:52.042-08:002011-11-30T14:38:52.042-08:00I've heard of the movie, but didn't know a...I've heard of the movie, but didn't know anything about it. One thing that struck me in your description was the similarity with Victor Hugo's book 'Hunchback Of Notre Dame', also set in Paris. Surely not a coincidence?Andy Guntonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00402607157584209849noreply@blogger.com
